Volunteer Opportunities
"It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself." -- Eleanor Roosevelt

Board / Committee BOARD / COMMITTEE
The Sharks Aquatic Club is a non-profit organization operated under the direction of a parent run board. Parents are often asked to serve on our board. It is a great way to become involved in the governing process of our team.

Committees are often created for specific purposes to better support our clubs objectives.

If your asked to serve in these areas, please consider it a privilege to help lead our club into the future.

Hospitality HOSPITALITY
This area is often overlooked as it is often behind the scenes. It often includes serving visiting coaches and officials meals and snacks during well deserved breaks.

Hospitality also includes serving water to timers, officials, and coaches during the hot summer months as they volunteer their time outdoors in the elements.

Officiating OFFICIATING
A successful swim meet in a six lane pool requires at least eight officials. All swimming officials are volunteers. They are usually dedicated parents, grandparents, many former swimmers or friends of swimmers. Basically they are just people who enjoy being involved in the sport.

Besides officiating at swim meets, their involvement includes taking clinics and work shops to improve their officiating skills as well as conducting clinics to help others become better officials.

Sales SALES ( T-SHIRT TABLE, CONCESSION TABLE )
Volunteers are needed at each swim meet behind our sales tables. Whether it be the sale of heat sheets and t-shirts or concession sales at our indoor meets your time is a valuable asset to our team.

The sale of these items are a big part of our clubs existence. Every little bit helps to fund our sport.

Set-Up/Break-down Team SET-UP / BREAK-DOWN TEAM
Another opportunity to help assist the team is to join the set-up and break-down team.
This team arrives early and/or stays late to makes sure all tents (shelters for timers) are in place. Other duties include preparing the pool for a competitive swim meet with blocks, lane lines, marking off areas, setting up tables, etc.
Just as it is important to have these things in place; they need to be put away after the meet.
Staying a little later after a meet to help is greatly appreciated.

Timing TIMING ( TIMER )
Each year SAC will host swim meets which are an important part of our teams revenue. Parents are required to time at these meets. Remember that being a timer gives you one of the best seats in the house! Parents are also encouraged to assist other clubs at their meets. Each session at a swim meet requires at least two timers per lane.

The Meet Director will contact all club members to fill timing positions prior to our club hosting a meet.

Timing System Operator TIMING SYSTEM OPERATOR
Other than winning the race or scoring points for their team, the most important part of a swimmers race is knowing how long he took to swim that event. A swimmers time could meet the qualification standards for future competition, set a local or national record, or it could simply be that swimmers personal best.

Timing System Operators are important positions that are responsible for providing each swimmer with an accurate and valid Official time through the operation of automatic or semi -automatic timing equipment, including the electronic starting system and scoreboard.
